Festa 2006- The
Madruga Family
Matthew, Kelly, Loriana & Alyssa
The Holy Spirit has blessed our families with great friends,
family, and a love for God. For this reason, we have committed
to being the Festa Presidents for 2006. Coming to this decision
has been a long and wonderful journey for both our families.
We are honored to be given this opportunity to serve the
Portuguese-American community of San Diego. The 96th annual
parade is dedicated to our mother, Elsie Lira Cerny's, honor & memory.
Both my and Kelly’s families have a long history of
involvement in the Festa. Our grandparents, Joe & Adelina
Rogers, were UPSES Festa Presidents in 1926, and 2006 will
be the 80th anniversary of their Festa. Our mother, Adeline
Madruga, remembers being very young and walking in the parade.
She has seen four generations of our family participate in
the Festa, and looks forward to the tradition being carried
on for many more years to come.
Loriana & Alyssa are thrilled to have the honor of being
the 2006 Festa Queens. They have been participating in the
Festa since before they were two years old, and have always
looked forward to the parade. It was their grandparents’ wish
to see them as Queens of the Festa, as we are sure it is
every grandparent’s dream to see their grandchild carry
on a beautiful tradition such as this one.
We believe that history should not be forgotten, but embraced
with its lessons. Our culture gave us Queen St. Isabel and
her lessons in love and compassion for the hungry, homeless,
and faith to the Lord. We want to share her message today
as our ancestors have for 500 years. Please join us for all
our wonderful upcoming events starting on September 30, 2005
at the 8th annual “Splendor on the Grass” golf
tournament and ending with the Festa Do Espirito Santo Festival
June 2-June 4, 2006.
This year promises to be a very special and busy time for
our family. We will have the pleasure of working with the
most giving and generous people in the world. We know we
will enjoy every minute of this journey as the Holy Spirit
guides us to make this celebration another wonderful success.
We invite everyone to participate with their families and
ours.
We are proud of our faith and heritage, and we have passed
on the tradition to our children, just as our parents and
grandparents passed on this wonderful legacy to us. Thank
you for all that you do for the UPSES Portuguese Festa. We
appreciate the generosity of your valuable time and support.
God Bless everyone and may the Holy Spirit bless you and
your families today and always.
Sincerely yours,
Matthew & Kelly Madruga
